Whale Songs and Elephant Loves
I just listened to this podcast and it reminded me of this exhibit, that I had the privilege of seeing, in Santa Monica (in 2006).
Not because the two are directly related. But the one reminded me of the other.
The photography exhibit in Santa Monica was truly somewhat indescribable ...to be in the exhibit, surrounded by music, smelling cold sand, standing in front of images that are Feet x Feet big and printed on touch-me-textured paper.... then we rode the ferris wheel...

"they shoot single people, don't they?"
Some thoughts:
1. tennis shoes are *amazingly* comfortable, after 5 hours of walking up and down stairs, in heels
2. an unexpectedly free bagel is a great way to start your day
3. red wine makes washing the dishes more enjoyable
4. some months are just going to be "one of those months"
5. finding a season of Sex & the City, that I don't own, for $15, makes me smile
6. rain smells good
7. connecting conversation is sustaining

p.s.
i'm sick again :( Boo. Left work a little early yesterday. Stopped at the grocery store to get some fruit, Nyquil, and cough drops. (for the record, I am so over buying my own cold medicine) Went home, pulled out the couch bed, popped in a movie, popped some Nyquil... SLEPT from 10pm til 12 noon today.
p.s. it is really awkward calling a friend to say "I'm sick; will you come over and hang out with me?" (Why yes, i would love to come into your germ-y environment just to help you feel better) I don't know how to ask that.
p.p.s. it is really LOVELY when a friend comes over to your germ-y environment and gives you a HUG, even when you couldn't figure out how to ask for that.
p.p.p.s. i love that full episodes of LOST, Survivor, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, and My So-Called Life are on the internet!
p.p.p.p.s. "The Holiday" is becoming one of those 'comfort food' movies, for me. One, because Jude Law is in it...that always helps :) Two, it reminds me of Cali.

yada, yada...
Prompted by a question a friend posed to me i discovered:
... out of the last 10 weeks, I have had SIX days where I have had nothing scheduled. Wow. No wonder i've been feeling sh*tty. Let's try to not do that in the future, ok? Ok...!
On another topic (this prompted thru discussing the question: "If you could be on a game show, which one would you pick"):
... do you remember the days on Wheel of Fortune, when the contestants got to go "shopping" after each round, with the money they'd won?? It's true! You can read all about it here: http://gs.mandelweb.com/wheelprizes.html
I distinctly remember a glass(?) ,life-size Dalmatian dog statue sitting in one of the prize rooms. This was around the same time in my life when I was taking imaginary dogs for walks; I think I really wanted a pet.
Btw, if I could be on a game show I would pick:
1. Family Feud... but with the old host. I always wanted to do that survey at the end.
-OR-
2. Jeopardy... with the qualification that I be "Jeopardy-smart". Or that would just be an exercise in self-abuse.
I now have 3 days off in a row... wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Minnesota, Hennepin
Wind Chill Advisory
Statement as of 4:52 AM CST on January 19, 2008
Expires 7:00 PM EST on January 19, 2008
A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST this afternoon. Temperatures will continue to fall to between 12 and 20 below zero through daybreak. West-northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph will push wind chills to between 25 and 40 below through the morning hours. Wind chills of 25 to 35 below zero will continue during late Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon as temperatures rise modestly. Therefore a Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect for the entire area of central and south central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin until 6 PM Saturday.
Wind chill advisories mean that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate dangerously low wind chills. This will
result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors overnight into Saturday... make sure you wear a hat and gloves. Keep blankets and extra clothing in your car if you travel.

the wisdom of the cookie...
Early this week I opened a fortune cookie that said (and i QUOTE):
"A cheerful letter or message is on its way to you."
Today (Thursday) I arrive home to this AMAZINGLY FANTASTIC sight...! Not one but *two* packages sit waiting for ME! I have amazing friends in Japan (by way of Ohio) and New Jersey. They make me feel loved and I appreciate them so, so, so, so much! (thank you)
maybe more on this later, but now to bed... and sweet dreams : )

Little House on the Prairie...
...is a great, great show. We need more Pa's in this world. Also, I'd like to say that I think this world might be a better place if people who deserved to get punched in the face, got punched in the face occassionally.

puddles of water instead of sheets of ice...
Today it was 36 degrees in Minneapolis. Balmy! So i went for a walk in my neighborhood.
On my walk I saw 5 snowmen. It makes me happy to know there are still people making snowmen.
